Welcome!

namaste

Hello and welcome! I'm "blog-a-thoning" for The American Himalayan Foundation, a non-profit organization headquartered in San Francisco, CA that's dedicated to helping the people, animals and ecology of the Himalaya.

People in the remote regions of the Himalaya often live without basic health care and education, economic pressures have led to environmental degradation, and traditional ways of life are in danger of disappearing.

The American Himalayan Foundation, founded 25 years ago, addresses some of these pressing problems by building schools, planting trees, training doctors, funding hospitals, saving wildlife, taking care of children and elderly, and restoring sacred sites throughout the Himalayas. They also assist and encourage Tibetans to rebuild and maintain their culture, both in exile and within Tibet.

I chose this charity because I've always been fascinated with the Himalayan region, I love that the AHF helps people along with the environment and the wildlife who share it, they've been awarded the highest rating (4 stars) by Charity Navigator, and I went to college with Norbu Tenzing (AHF's vice president). :-)

I'll be adding more information to (and obsessively fussing with) my blog before the blogathon begins on Saturday, July 28th at 6 am Pacific (7 am my time), so please keep checking back. Meanwhile, I hope you'll visit the American Himalayan Foundation's web site, and that you'll support their wonderful work by sponsoring me in the blogathon!
